Gregory the Great.

Behind every successful company is a success story.
Gregory Zaretsky, the founder of One Planet, is the embodiment of the American Dream. While in college some people work on their tans, some create new industries. Gregory is from that second group.

In the early 70s, while still a student at the University of Pennsylvania, Gregory earned extra money as a Polish translator and interpreter. After graduating, he founded his first translation agency. Gregory has blazed the path there ever since.
In 1979, when translation technologies were only sprouting seeds in the global village, Gregory founded The Corporate Word.

Focused on delivering GILT (Globalization, Internationalization, Localization and Translation) services to Fortune 500 corporations, the company soon soared to the top.

Forbes magazine hailed The Corporate Word as the most computerized business in the country (U.S.), and Gregory was credited for coining the term “language management” at a time when no one realized that languages could be managed.

Soon after, Gregory opened a European headquarters in Amsterdam, Holland. It became the center for excellence in production and proved to be a highly successful platform to gain a major share of
the lucrative European translation market.

By the time Gregory sold The Corporate Word, it boasted offices in 11 Western European countries and the Peoples Republic of China.

High-tech Leadership.

A pioneer in MT (Machine Translation) applications, Gregory’s young company was selected by Westinghouse, in 1987, to assist in evaluating every MT software package available in the world.

Over a six-month period, they methodically assessed the benefits and drawbacks of such MT systems as Systran, Logos, ALPS, Weidner and a score of others, recommending ALPS to Westinghouse. Westinghouse bought the system and then hired Gregory’s team to operate it.

This experience with fully automatic translation programs generated a better understanding of their functionalities as well as their limitations, invaluable knowledge that Gregory and his team passed on to its clients. With the purchase of Weidner and Logos systems, Gregory’s young company became one of the most automated providers of translation services in the world, which led to contracts with NASA, the US Air Force, Rockwell, IBM, GE and several other major corporations and governmental agencies.

Years later, Gregory’s company working closely with the scientists at Carnegie Mellon University’s Computational Linguistics, developed first Knowledge Based Interlingua System. It is still one of the most advanced MT systems available today.

In 1991, The Corporate Technology was born.
This joint venture with scientists at Carnegie Mellon’s Center for Machine Translation became the focal point in the push toward the development of Machine Assisted Translation (MAT).

MAT tools enable translators to be more productive. They help catch errors and instantly provide terminology in the target language. One Planet is fluent in both MT and all MAT tools.

In 2004, Gregory decided it was time to set the Translation Industry on its ear again and opened One Planet.
